The Ridge Cycling Hub
Trail Design
This 10-mile trail will have dramatic drops and beautiful landscapes and will take an estimated 2-4 years to complete once approved.
Throughout the process of design and construction of these trails, the guidelines for sustainable trail development will be followed.
The trails at The Ridge will be mostly single-track trail for mountain bikers and hikers. Trail design will also make use of some current wider trails on the land for bobcat access to build and sustain trail maintenance. These wider trails will have a basic loop and will be ideal for beginner mountain bikers and hikers. (See black lines on the trail map)
The trail design team will utilize the natural landscape of the property to design additional beginner to intermediate trails which will provide riders to experience rollercoaster drops and climbs in addition to gorgeous lake views. Trails will be rated mostly green and blue with one possible black diamond.
Parking Lot
Currently, Ridge Road is a well-trafficked road cycling route in Davidson County. The proposed parking lot will accommodate 40-50 cars mountain bikers and hikers using the trail, as well as road cyclists who use Ridge Road as part of their cycling route.
The service/emergency road adjoining the parking lot will be covered in gravel where needed with 18”x32’ reinforced concrete pipe (RCP) at the road access, 24”x20’ RCP at the first creek crossing, utilizing existing concrete and stone at the second creek crossing and 36”X20’ RCP at the third creek crossing.
This road will serve as a transportation corridor for trail building/maintenance equipment as well as for emergency access.
Other Proposed Amenities
A stationary bike tool center will be located at the trail head for bikers who might have mechanical issues with their bike before, during or after their ride. In addition, a small building that houses a changing room for riders who need to change out of muddy/sweaty clothes after a ride is also a nice feature for the parking lot. Ideally, a bathroom would be added at a later date.
